Our History

Hunter Badminton Association has a proud 50 year history serving the Newcastle and Hunter region. Our purpose built Badminton Centre offers fantastic facilities with newly surfaced courts and superb LED lighting. We welcome players of all skills & ages, hosting regular social sessions, competitions and community events. If you haven’t played badminton before come experience Newcastle’s fastest racquet Sport!

  • Our badminton centre is known as the “Jim Pritchard Hall” – named after the former President who was very influential in not only it’s construction but the growth of badminton at the time.
  • Our hall was officially opened on March 15th 1980.
  • Prior to our purpose built badminton hall – badminton in Newcastle was played at the Newcastle Show Grounds before that building burnt down in 1978.
  • When competing in the State League – the Newcastle region have produced several strong teams over the years.
  • Newcastle has a proud history for breeding competitive players some of which have gone onto win State & National Titles.
